What is a Box 2 Notice and Order?

Box 2 Notice and Order- Commerical Vehicles

In British Columbia, it is not uncommon to see CVSE (commercial vehicle safety and enforcement) on the side of any major roadway, inspecting commercial vehicles to see if they are in compliance with our province’s safety standards.

It Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley, it’s a daily occurrence as there are so many commercial vehicles on our roads. This is to not only protect the public, but to protect the driver of the commercial vehicle as well.

The purpose of the CVSE is to ensure that commercial vehicles are being properly maintained and driven in a safe manner, to protect both the driver and every other driver on the road with them.

What is a Box 2 Inspection?

In recent years, there have been many reported accidents and fatalities relating directly to commercial vehicles, and ones that were not in compliance with BC’s safety standards. The CVSE makes every effort to reduce these instances by issuing a Box 2 Notice and Order for commercial vehicle inspection.

When a commercial driver is issued a Box 2 Notice, they are required to bring the commercial vehicle that is being cited to a designated inspection facility for a thorough inspection. Any deficiencies found on a roadside inspection will usually lead to being given a Box 2 Notice.

As a professional scrap car removal company in both Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley, we purchase so much MORE than simply scrap cars. We also buy our fair share of commercial vehicles that have failed their inspections and will not be repaired by the owner due to the overall cost.

Why Does CSVE Pull Trucks Over in BC?

Commercial Vehicle Inspection

We’ve all seen them; CSVE vehicles parked on the side of Highway 1 in rush hour, while the occupant is climbing up onto a semi-truck or dump truck that is parked in front of it.

Many of us grimace at the sight as we drive by because it often causes a visual distraction, which slows down our commute home, but they are also sometimes pulled over in a rather inconvenient spot for the assessment. However, the purpose behind the random roadside inspection is in everyone’s best interest.

Many big commercial trucks have caused major accidents and many truck drivers have died as a result of not following best safety practices.

These include:

  • Driving with unsecured loads
  • Driving with an improperly attached transfer trailer
  • Dump trucks driving with a raised trailer
  • Poor equipment integrity

Other reasons a commercial vehicle might get pulled over in BC are:

  • Driving unsafely
  • Taillights not working
  • Suspicious looking equipment (either how it is secured or not secured)
  • Using airbrakes where it is prohibited
  • Randomly selected by CSVE officer

Any on-duty CSVE officer is permitted to pull over a commercial vehicle for absolutely no reason at all. It is considered to be part of a random inspection, and the driver of the vehicle is required by law to comply. Failure to do so can result in fines and the removal of their commercial license.

Also, any deficiencies found during the roadside inspection is cited to not only the vehicle, but to the driver of the vehicle, as CVSE considers it the driver’s responsibility to maintain their commercial vehicle’s maintenance.

How Long Do I Have to Complete a Box 2 Notice Inspection?

Once you’ve been cited with a Box 2 Notice and Order, you are required to have your vehicle sent to a designated vehicle inspection facility. This must be completed within 30 days of receiving the notice. Otherwise,

An Authorized Inspector at a Designated Inspection Facility will conduct the vehicle inspection and complete an inspection report. A passed inspection report must be provided to the Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement Branch within 30 days.

What If I Miss the Deadline?

If you don’t complete and pass the required vehicle inspection within the 30-day period, the commercial vehicle will be flagged by ICBC and authorities.

If, for any reason, the same commercial is found being driven, the license plates, as well as the vehicle itself can and typically will be seized. Furthermore, it is also illegal to operate a vehicle where a Box 2 Notice and Order has not been complied with.

This is one of the reasons we see scrap commercial vehicles come through our doors (so-to-speak). When an older commercial vehicle fails inspection, many times the cost to do the repairs isn’t a sensible investment for owners. It’s in these cases where they scrap their vehicle with More Cash For Scrap!

Where Can I Find a Designated Vehicle Inspection Facility?

Commercial Vehicle Inspection for Box 2 Notice and Order

For commercial vehicle inspections specifically, the one most commonly used in the Lower Mainland is the Pacific CVSE Inspection Station located on 176th Street near the Pacific Border Crossing in Surrey.

However, if you are looking for a general vehicle inspection for an out-of-province or out-of-country vehicle, you can go to many local car mechanics who are accredited with ICBC and the CVSE for a formal vehicle inspection.

Some of those shops are:

  • BCAA
  • Minit Tune
  • Canadian Tire
  • Smart Vehicle Inspections
  • Surrey Inspection and Repair Centre
  • Abbotsford Tune-Up
  • Langley Central Auto Service
  • Precision Auto Service

As mentioned above, not only commercial vehicles are the ones that require an inspection. However, they are the only ones who have this enforced by the CVSE.

Cash for Out-of-Province Cars that Have Failed Inspection

West Vancouver Car Recyclers

Some people bring in vehicles from other provinces or territories when they move to BC. Although the vehicle is fully insured in the province it originates from, they cannot insure it here without having it first pass a vehicle inspection.

Much like the intentions of the CVSE and commercial vehicles, this is done in an effort to increase and maintain road safety for all of the drivers on it. Having an out-of-province vehicle pass an inspection ensures that the vehicle meets at least the bare minimum safety standards, but it also makes sure that vehicles are reasonable when it comes to their emissions.

British Columbia is a very “green” province in every sense of the word. This is why part of the initiative to keep it that way is inspecting and regulating vehicles that come into the province from other provinces, territories, or countries.

We see so many out-of-province vehicles fail inspection, and generally, the reasons aren’t that severe. However, the cost to repair and rectify the deficiencies is usually too much for the vehicle owner to justify, so they scrap their car with More Cash For Scrap.

How Much Cash Can I Get for My Scrap Vehicle?

When it comes to paying cash for scrap cars in Metro Vancouver, every vehicle has a different and unique value. This is due in part to the fact that we buy MORE than just scrap “cars”, but it is also because we base our offers on MORE than simply its overall metal weight.

We also consider things like its general resale value, the condition it is in, and any rare or after-market components that your vehicle has on it that could increase its value. With scrap commercial vehicles, they typically procure a higher value than many other vehicles.

Provide our team with the make, model, year, condition, and location of your vehicle. Also, let us know about any little details that could be pertinent to paying you the true value of your car. Our scrap car buyers will make you an instant cash offer on your car right over the phone.

If you accept our offer, we’ll arrange a day and time for our scrap car removal specialists to come pick up your car, and they will pay you cash in hand before leaving with your vehicle. It’s that simple!
